Sponsored by Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, the race hosts, Janene and Deon Malherbe are long-time growers in the region and send their apples and pears to Ceres Fruit Growers for processing, Tru-Cape, in turn, sells these fine fruits on the local South African market and exports them into 104 countries around the world.
Janene Malherbe extended her congratulations to all who took part. “This was an outstanding weekend with lots of “gees” and families spending time together in nature. We also had beautiful weather although the nights were chilly for people who were camping in tents on the farm,” she ends.
The weekend included three trail races. The 25km challenge was won by Connor O’Sullivan in 2:16:17 the 15km Trail won by Kyle Herring in a time of 1:02:28 and the 7.5km route was won by Kelsey Nel in a time of 31:51.
The Eselfontein Festival is primarily a tool to raise funds for local schools and homes for the aged. The final amounts raised will be announced once all the weekend’s expenses have been finalised.
