Agri’s got Talent 2018 announces Top 10 and Tru-Cape’s Ceres grower is among them.

When people think about Eselfontein in Ceres they think apple, pear, peach, dairy and upcoming cherry farming as well as eco-tourism and one of the pioneers in MTB trails in SA with an annual three Day MTB Festival in October. They don’t often think about theatrical talent and even less likely about the region’s rising star and his celebrated cross-dressing act.
Bredwyn van Wyk is often seen in the home of growers Deon and Janene Malherbe. “Bredwyn  has been with us for three years and was originally employed as our gardener, now he is much more and is responsible for the Eselfontein “impression we stand for”, the Eco Tourism, our kids, our pets, our home, and everything else that comes with it.
“He is the son of our housekeeper Anna (who is second Mom to our children) and we are so impressed at this strength and the commitment he shows after all his personal struggles. So the news now that his drag act has placed him in the top 10 of the Agri’s Got Talent competition, is music to our ears.” she says.
Deon Malherbe agrees: “We are very proud of Bredwyn and his work and advancement at Eselfontein. From an early age his great passion has been art and culture. On weekends he uses his talent as an entertainer to raise extra income. His drag character, Britta Houston Cater, keeps people on the edge of their seats. He gave a ‘Pricilla, Queen of the Desert’, performance at one of the Ceres Karoo Motorbike events in which we participated and the crowds really enjoyed his performance. We heartily recommend that he follows a full-time career as a performer if the opportunity arrises. This has, after all, always been his dream. I know the whole farm is proud of his achievements and holding thumbs for his success in Agri’s Got Talent finals.”
The Agri’s got Talent team will be visiting the 10 finalists during the month of July in preparation for the competition which culminates in a Gala Evening on 3 August. The contest is hosted by Hortgro, the Vinpro Foundation and the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, with the aftercare programme sponsored by SATI.
Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, the largest exporter of South African apples and pears into more than 104 countries, says their growers often feature in the top 10. “We know we have the required talent when it comes to growing apples and pears but it is great to know that our industry has the other bases covered too. Our congratulations to Bredwyn van Wyk and the other contestants,” says Tru-Cape’s MD Roelf Pienaar.
